More Satisfying Than Food?

I have food to eat that you know nothing about. John 4:32

Have you ever been so excited about something that you could not eat?

We are in a phase of life where grandchildren are getting married and starting families. When a granddaughter accepts an invitation to marry and receives her engagement ring her next reaction has never been to suggest they find someplace to go and eat. On the contrary, she is entirely focused on the diamond she is wearing on her finger. In the excitement and joy of the moment she has no interest in food.

When the disciples returned from town with lunch and found Jesus talking to a woman at the well, they did not know what to say to him. As the woman dropped her water bucket and ran to town the disciples became even more confused. The first words out of their mouths were:

Rabbi, eat something.” John 4:31

Jesus' response: "I have food to eat you know nothing about" only increased their confusion. They began to wonder among themselves is someone had already brought him his lunch?

The disciples had yet to learn what made Jesus happy and full of joy. Jesus genuinely enjoyed it when a person became aware of who He was and began their journey of spiritual healing. Only Jesus fully knew his role as the bridge between sinners and eternal life lived in harmony with God. When a person responded to him it was evidence of a life being changed for eternity and that sealed the reason Jesus came to earth. People responding to him fed him in ways that actual food never could.
