Recover All to Disciple All

“And it came to pass, when David and his men were come to Ziklag on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south, and Ziklag, and smitten Ziklag, and burned it with fire; And had taken the women captives, that were therein: they slew not any, either great or small, but carried them away, and went on their way.” (1 Samuel 30:1-2)

Our Focal Scripture speaks of the invasion of Ziklag. David and his men returned to find their city burnt, and their wives, sons and daughters taken captive. It was a painful scene - everything looked lost.

But notice this: No one died. The Amalekites took them captive, but they slew not any, great or small. God preserved lives.

Why did God preserve them? Because God does not just preserve people to comfort them, He preserves people to disciple them.

Every woman and child taken from Ziklag was a soul waiting to be recovered. Just like today, people across the Street and around the World are not dead, they are captive. Captive by sin, captive by culture, captive by confusion. They are not lost, beyond reach, they are waiting for someone to go after them.

That is why David pursued, overtook, and recovered ALL. That is the heart of discipleship. We don't just celebrate that we were not consumed; we go after those who are still captive.

The enemy may have burnt Ziklag, but he could not kill the destiny inside the people. Your neighbor across the street may look burnt, broken, and bound, but his soul is still intact. That colleague, that non-Christian community across the street, that student down the road, that family around the world watching you online - they are not dead, they are just waiting to be won and discipled.

Friend, hear me: God kept you, preserved you, and established you in a new land, not just to survive, but to become a disciple-maker. Your Ziklag may have been burnt - you left home, you left comfort - but God preserved you so you can now recover others.

Our mandate has not changed. We are to Make Disciples across the Street and around the World. Local evangelism and global missions. In our neighbourhood and to the nations.

If David had just sat down and wept over burnt Ziklag, the captives would never have been recovered. We cannot weep over what we lost and forget the souls still waiting.

Arise today. Across the street, someone needs Jesus. Around the world, someone needs to be taught how to follow Jesus. Go after them. David's pursuit was to Recover All. Our pursuit in this season is to Disciple All.

Though your Ziklag was burnt, no destiny shall be truncated, and no soul around you shall be lost under your watch.

Pray like this: Father, use me to recover and disciple souls - across the street and around the world. Though my Ziklag was burnt, no one around me will be lost, in Jesus' name!
