When Truth Showed Up in a Dream

"I am the ... Truth” - Jesus John 14:6

I once met a lady who had a dream directing her to a specific address to meet a tall man who would be standing by a wall and he would tell her the truth. Her dreams were normally very dark and scary. This particular dream was different from the others and so specific that she felt compelled to take action. As it turned out the dream directed her to my work place. 

When she described the details of her dream it became clear Jesus had miraculously intervened in the dark world of her dreams and the resulting distress and confusion she experienced in life. He let her know it was possible to know the truth which was exactly what she needed. Her desire was to know what was real and right and true in the midst of the messages in her dreams.  

During our conversation it was my great privilege to let her know that truth is an actual person. There is a person whose name is truth. Jesus said about himself: "I am the truth."  I immediately realized if Jesus introduced himself as a path to knowing truth then talking about truth and discovering truth would form the basis of discipling her to be a fully devoted Jesus follower. 

In John 8:44 it says this about Satan: "When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies." Satan is a liar and Jesus is the truth. As disciple-makers we help people how know how to recognize lies and get to know the truth. In the process of introducing potential Jesus followers to the truth it is important to remember we are not introducing them to a belief system, moral standards or a religion. We are introducing them to a person. One of his names is truth.
