When Darkness Turns to Light

"the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining." 1 John 2:8b

One church in Tennessee experienced a 65% increase in attendance after Charlie Kirk was assassinated during a rally at a university in Idaho. For those intercessors who may not know about Charlie Kirk, he was a devout follower of Jesus who was also deeply engaged in the political scene in the USA. His message resonated with young men in particular. Many believers did not like the way he tied his faith to a particular political agenda. In Philippians 1:18 Paul helps us with perspective when we don't totally agree with everything another person preaches.

"But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice."

Up until a few weeks ago very few people shared their faith openly in the political realm in the USA. One tragic event changed that. However, this openness to talk about God, Jesus, Holy Spirit and personal journeys of faith has been building for some time.

In the past few years there have been several revival meetings on university campuses. The university of Ohio football team recently held evangelistic meetings and baptized many students. Some young men recently told me, their male friends have all become interested in knowing about faith in Jesus. Apparently, so far the young women in this group have not shown an interest in the same way as the boys.

A light is shining in the darkness. Let's get on board by praying that this interest in spiritual things will take root in hearts of young men and women wherever they live in the world.
